A location shoot in Sydney CBD reveals an interesting juxtaposition of some of Sydney’s finer tower buildings and the historic castellated building that is home to the Sydney Conservatorium of Music.

From the right of frame there is Governor Phillip Tower by Denton Corker Marshall, next left is Aurora Place by Renzo Piano, then Chifley Tower by Kohn Pedersen Fox Associates and finally, poking into frame at the back is Sir Norman Forster’s Deutsche Bank Building.

The Conservatorium’s home is one of the few remaining examples of the work of Francis Greenway. Transported to Sydney in 1814 for forgery, Greenway was soon given his ticket of leave because of his architectural qualifications. Greenway’s building operated as the stables, offices and coach house for Government House for almost a century and was part of Governor Macquarie’s romantic scheme for this part of Sydney.
